Earth used to have a ring like Saturn
Earth had a ring like Saturn about 466 million years ago. According to the latter hypothesis, it is thought that the ring has existed for several tens of millions of years, long enough to leave behind a geological trace.
The evidence for its existence lies in the high number of meteorites found in 21 craters, all of which fell to the earth's surface in the same period, between 485 and 445 million years ago.
According to a group of planetologists at Monash University in Australia, over millions of years the ring materials may have gradually fallen onto Earth, with an interesting position as they were all found within 30 degrees of the equator.
A computer model was reconstructed and the ring began to fragment during the Ice Age.
However, the scientific community is currently working to fully reconstruct the history of the Earth, the presence and shape of the ring and the extreme climatic conditions at different stages of its 4.5 billion year existence.
The study was published in the scientific journal "Earth and Planetary Science Letters".
